ROCKFORD ôôֱ²¥” Kristin Burns, history department chair and Academic Quiz Bowl coach at Keith Country Day School, was recently named as the Illinois High School Scholastic Bowl Coaches Association Class A Coach of the Year.

According to IHSSBCA, Burns exemplifies the best aspects of the Scholastic Bowl community: commitment to student excellence, sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Keith was the only local 1A school to advance to the Masonic State Tournament where it placed third in state. The team also won its regional IHSA tournament and was headed to sectionals prior to the COVID-19 state shut down. Keithôôֱ²¥™s team was the youngest in attendance with four freshmen and one 11th grader. To keep the students engaged during the final quarter of the year, Burns took the initiative to hold ongoing virtual quiz bowl sessions with her students.
