Bruce Robert Johnson, 83, of Rockford, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Bruce was born in Rockford on October 8, 1940, the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Leet) Johnson. He graduated from Rockford East High School, Class of 1958. Bruce then went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Western New Mexico University. He then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. Bruce married Joanne Jennings on March 20, 1969. He was a member of SecondFirst Church in Rockford. After retirement, Bruce volunteered his time with Healing Pathways Men's Support Group. He always had a love for art and music and was a gifted musician. Most of all, Bruce cherished his time spent with family, friends and loved ones. Surviving relatives include his wife, Joanne Johnson; sister, Christine Buswell; nieces, Karen (Matt) Frey, Kathleen (Andy) Larson and Jane Buswell (Karen Rinka); nephew, Jim (Maureen) Buswell; sister-in-law, Merry Tassoni; brother-in-law, Fritz Keeler; numerous great-nieces and nephew, and special friends, John and Pat Grant. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at SecondFirst Church, 318 N. Church Street, Rockford, IL 61101.
